Pocahontas County

Pocahontas County was home to Native Americans before the arrival of European settlers. In 1749, Jacob Marlin and Stephen Sewell settled near present-day Marlinton, the county seat. In 1821, Pocahontas County was formed from parts of Randolph and Pendleton County, W.Va. and Bath County, Va. Today, Pocahontas is home to more than 9,000 residents. It is home to a national forest, many state parks and lots of outdoor recreation.
